FAQs
Do I need to have woodworking experience?
No! Our classes are open to everyone, from beginners to advanced. Every class has a tutor who is there to help you – from choosing the right wood, design, to teaching you woodwork techniques and how to safely use tools and equipment including power tools.
What type of classes are available?
Many people are in our Woodworks General Classes – our project-based classes. This programme always starts with a one-to one, after this up to 6 classes are available each week and each session is three hours with a break.
Day Courses and Short Courses, include Woodworking Basics, Letter Carving and the Carving Club. These are open to book first come first served. These may be more suitable if you aren’t ready commit to a large project or regular attendance.
Do I have to do a one-to one session?
You do not need to do an introductory one-to-one session for Day Courses and Short Courses.
If you want to join Woodworks General Classes, then a one-hour one-to-one session is mandatory. You will be shown around the workshop, the tools and materials that are available. We will agree your project idea and, if there is time, outline a plan for it too.
What is provided in sessions?
All specialist equipment is provided including PPE. You have access to a large range of hand tools, power tools and machinery, as well as fixings and finishing materials. You are also welcome to source your own wood, but please double check in advance.
For Woodworks General Classes, we have a stock of quality wood available for purchase for your project.
All materials and equipment are provided for day courses and short courses.
How often do I have to attend?
To manage storage space and workflow, we need regular attendance at Woodworks General Classes. This is a minimum of three-to-four times a month. The reality is that often projects take longer than we all think, so be prepared to complete the initial one-to one and at least five classes.
Day Courses and Short Courses have fixed dates.
How much does it cost?
Day Courses and Short Courses are individually priced.
Woodworks General Classes are as follows:
- One-to one: £50. After the session you will receive a discount code for 10% off your first 5 or 10 session pass
- Passes: for three, five and 10 sessions.
- Memberships: two levels – Standard and Premium
Wood is not included in these prices. Tea, coffee and biscuits are!
What’s the Booking platform you use. Is there support?
This is done through our Bookwhen pages. NB Bookwhen’s Booker helpcentre is here. It is well worth setting up an account, this will enable you to check expiry dates on passes, how many sessions you have left on a pass. You can also save the booking landing page to your mobile phone which speeds up booking. Of course if you are still stuck reach out to us and we will be happy to help!
Is there parking?
